I am not a professional nor an expert in Gasteria taxonomy. Any help with ID and spelling are always welcome. To up-date my list I've been using many books, journals, catalogs and other web-sites. It's been helpful, but I have more work to do. I only ship to the main 48 States. I can ship in the winter. I do have 72+ hour heat packs for $4.00 each. No international shipping. Please read the front page for ordering information.
Note: All my Gasteria have been grown and propagated here at the J & J Greenhouse for decades. We had a very hot dry spring, summer and fall this year. Since the temps have cooled down the Gasteria are starting wake up and look alive.

Gasteria 'Bronze Knuckles' sm -
Gasterias are often indiscriminately hybridized in southern California by local
hummingbirds. Therefore, open-pollinated seed (as opposed to that from
controlled pollination) is rarely worth keeping or sowing. When set on a
desirable species like G.
armstrongii,
however, one might be tempted to try some. That is the history of this new
cultivar which appears to be a hybrid of G. nitida var. armstrongii and G.
bicolor var. liliputana.
The latter species lends its glossiness and dwarf, offsetting habit to the dark
foliage-color of the former. This miniature clumper is deep green in shade but
can blush a lovely bronze color with more light, hence the cultivar name. The
rosettes of recurved leaves are at first distichous but become rosulate.
Divisions of HBG 97466, one of a batch of mostly true seedlings from seed
harvested by one of our more pugnacious volunteers whose wings beat nearly as
fast as the pollinator. Nursery cultivar. Growing in a
2.75" pots. 1 in stock @ $10.00 each.
Gasteria carinata ssp. verrucosa m -
Long known and very popular among succulent fanciers Gasteria
carinata var. verrucosa (more
commonly known as Gasteria
verrucosa)
is a peculiar looking plant with two-ranked, dull-green, leaves densely
roughened with small, pearly-white excrescences and with grooved upper surfaces.
It is probably the best-known example of a Gasteria species
with very rough leaves. The name verrucosa,
signifies warty or rough. The most popular form has the leaves being completely
covered with white tubercles, and in some forms, the tubercles forming
ornamental stripes of white bumps over both the ventral and dorsal surfaces. It
is one of the most variable species in the genus. Variability includes a very
large form (leaves up to 280 mm long) at Infanta (Breede River mouth) and a form
with linear, channelled leaves at Herbertsdale.
